Having first trained as a musician, then a singer, then musical theatre performance at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and finally music production at Tileyard in Kings Cross, Michael has a very firm understanding of music and the voice – from page to recording studio to stage. His wide range of skills has had him both perform lead roles like Sweeney Todd at the Shoreditch Town Hall, write and star in his own musical MESS (which can be heard on Spotify, produced by himself), be Musical Director of various shows and cabarets in London and Edinburgh, as well as play bass in the pit. With a strong curiosity for the workings behind music and theatre, he has also got his name on two West End shows in 2019 as producer, including Fame The Musical.
Michael has taught voice, music and theory constantly since 2010: for old and young; in Denmark, UK and beyond; and amateurs as well as professionals on UK no. 1 tours. He has led workshops internationally, in the UK for the British Voice Association, and currently teaches at Urdang Academy, READ College, and in his private studio where he also acts as a music producer. On top of that he has experience in the world of start-ups as investor, advisor and voice coach, having worked with employees of McKinsey and the CEO of the award winning dating app CLiKD.
With a firm belief that you have to take the whole person into account in voice work, with Michael you will get a holistic approach to the voice. From emotional complexity, through musical finesse, down to anatomical detail. Sometimes the biggest hindrance is an imbalance in the body, sometimes it’s a mental block, and sometimes you just need to approach a note in a slightly different way. Wherever you are on your voice journey, and regardless of whether you are aiming for a professional career or simply to sing with more joy, Michael will carefully and attentively help you achieve your goals.
Having trained with Danish voice guru Anne Rosing at the Anne Rosing Institute in Copenhagen, with Michael you’ll get unique practical exercises that you can apply immediately to your voice use, and which yield results both quickly and in the long term. Furthermore, he has a fully equipped music studio ready to record a professional song or reel, produce your next single, or mix and master a recording made elsewhere. As a music producer he has produced the Original London Cast recording of MESS the musical, produced Imogen Halsey’s debut EP, created a Virtual Reality Concert Experience called Dreaming in December, and is currently working on producing Antje Lang’s debut album as well as a musical children’s book project inspired by his daughter.
