KELLY YOUNG. SINGING TEACHER. EXETER AND ONLINE.

Thank you so much for considering me as your vocal coach!

You’ll notice fairly quickly that I am open and friendly, and that I will listen to you! After all, our instrument of the voice is housed within our body, and I feel it’s important to understand the person to work with the voice. I feel strongly that singers should be informed and educated about their unique instrument.

My teaching is driven by wanting to make you a better, more confident singer and to help you achieve your goals. We’ll do that by working together, finding out your learning style and building trust. As I am also a professional performer as well as a teacher, I know what it’s like to be a working vocalist and how to sustain a singing career.

What we cover in lessons will be directed by your goals, but of course I have lots of advice I can help you with -this ranges from repertoire, auditions, vocal technique, performance, mic technique, how to market yourself, working across different genres, how to learn and practice effectively and general vocal troubleshooting.

I actively encourage developing a healthy and sustainable voice, and equipping you with the knowledge you need to become the artist you want to be.

Some of my performance work includes:

Queens Room Orchestra Vocalist (Cunard, QM2 / QV)
PULSE Lead Vocalist (8pc Showband, P&O Britannia)
Soundwave Vocalist / Cabaret Artiste (P&O Azura / Adonia)
Backing Vocalist (Microsoft Bing)
Session Vocals / Songwriter – Allowance Records
Session Vocals / Arranging – Parkdean Resorts
Atlantica Hotels (Lead Vocals, Cabaret Artist)

Currently I am Associate Lecturer (Voice) at Oxford Brookes University, where I prepare first and second year undergraduates for their final recitals. I am also currently Technical Instructor (Music) at Devon Partnership NHS Trust, where I facilitate music making within a mental heath setting. This is in conjunction with my own busy gigging diary!

REVIEWS

“Kelly’s lessons are motivating and extremely helpful. I have never had such personalised warm ups and ways to tackle songs in my 10 years of singing lessons until Kelly. The singing lessons were full of technical help and practical ways to improve vocals” – Olivia

“Kelly was always very nice and was always very helpful. I really enjoyed working with with Kelly because we had a similar taste in music and we generally got on very well in the lessons but at the same time we were very productive and organised. I would really like to do lessons with Kelly again” – Callum

“I’ve had probably 5 singing teachers in my life and Kelly is by far my absolute favourite, I couldn’t recommend her enough. She makes you feel so at ease right from the start and always has so many great ideas and tips on how to improve and pick songs that suit your style while also challenging you. She was even there for me as a friend whenever I was feeling extremely stressed about my final uni performance. I’ve learnt so much from Kelly and in my lessons with her I finally felt understood and appreciated as a singer as she really cares about each individual she teaches” – Jessica

“Having had little experience with vocal coaching in the past I was slightly daunted to begin lessons, however Kelly immediately put my worries to bed. With a cheerful, friendly and professional attitude, she was open to my opinions around which songs I should attempt as well as guiding me toward songs that I both enjoyed as a listener but also might work with my voice. Thoroughly motivating and positive, I always felt comfortable making mistakes with her, knowing that she would be able to find exercises and drills to improve me. I would recommend Kelly to anyone who is remotely interested in improving their singing, a class act!” – Archie Valentine

“Coming from having two other singing teachers in the past, I can honestly say that Kelly has taught me so much which I didn’t know! She always makes me confident when singing, even if I get it wrong. I would defo recommend her, I could say say I found a friend within these singing lessons, as she always makes sure if I’m okey and asks about my day. Which is lovely! She’s an amazing singing teacher, teaches you everything you need to know” – Lavinia
